This morning, I was honored to welcome the World Special Olympics 2019 Champion, Faith Nyagaki Muchiri who won one gold and two silver medals in Dubai.
The twenty- four – year- old Nyagaki won the three international medals during the event which was held at Abu Dhabi in Dubai in March this year.
Nyagaki, who is the only daughter in a family of five, started developing complications one year after birth due to calcium deficiency. She is also very good in golf, music and dancing.
The lady who hails from Kariko area in Chinga ward, Othaya, beat 7,500 participants from 190 countries, 72 of them being Kenyans, to win a gold medal in breaststroke swimming game in Dubai. She also won two silver medals in freestyle stroke swimming game.
Nyagaki who is a student at Kenya Community Centre (KCC) for learning, a school for children with special needs in Nairobi, now joins other Nyeri champions like Prof Wangari Maathai, Freedom Fighter Dedan Kimathi, Catherine Ndereba, Mwai Kibaki, among others.
My Government will fully support sporting activities and even establish facilities which will cater for the People Living With Disabilities (PLWD).
